In a major educational research initiative aimed at evaluating technology integration in primary and secondary schooling, AI Ready School (AIRS) officially launched a nationwide research program to measure the real-world impact of artificial intelligence on K-12 education across India. Guided by an expert advisory panel of senior education policy experts, the multi-state study spans diverse educational settings, including government schools, private institutions, and schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and international boards. Rather than focusing solely on standardized test scores, the comprehensive evaluation assesses critical student outcomes, including conceptual reasoning, classroom engagement, analytical confidence, and individual learning retention. Preliminary classroom pilots demonstrated significant promise, showing noticeable increases in student participation and subject confidence during AI-assisted learning modules. Academic researchers and educational leaders highlighted that generating localized, classroom-based evidence is crucial for helping school administrators, teachers, and curriculum designers understand where automated tools add genuine instructional value and where human-led teaching remains indispensable.

Nationwide Initiative to Build Evidence-Based Research on AI Integration

To evaluate the real-world impact of Artificial Intelligence in school environments, K–12 technology ecosystem provider AI Ready School (AIRS) launched a national research program through its dedicated division, AIRS Research. Guided by an advisory panel that includes education policy expert Janajit Ray, the nationwide study examines how AI tools shape classroom dynamics, student reasoning, subject engagement, and instructional support for teachers. The study addresses a critical gap in the expanding EdTech landscape by shifting focus from mark-based metrics to holistic cognitive development and evidence-based learning outcomes.

Overview: Key Highlights of the AIRS National K-12 Research Program

Program Dimension / MetricOfficial Scope & Implementation Framework
Initiative NameAIRS National Research Programme on AI in K-12 Education
Participating Institutions100 Schools (Government, Private, Urban, & Rural)
Covered BoardsCBSE, ICSE, State Boards, & International Curricula
Classroom Intervention Format3-Day Focused Program per school (1 class / 1 subject)
Evaluated MetricsLearning scores, reasoning confidence, student engagement, teacher adoption
National Report ReleaseJanuary 2027 (Exclusive National Summit in New Delhi)

Comprehensive 100-School Sampling Framework

The research encompasses 100 educational institutions spanning multiple states, covering a balanced cross-section of private, government, urban, and rural schools across CBSE, ICSE, State, and International board affiliations. To minimize disruption to regular academic schedules, each participating institution undergoes a structured three-day trial involving one designated class and subject. Students complete pre- and post-intervention assessments, while teachers and administrators provide structured qualitative feedback regarding gap identification, lesson planning, and student confidence.

Speaking on the launch, Chiranjeevi Maddala, Co-founder and CEO of AI Ready School, highlighted that early classroom pilots demonstrated a need to measure AI impact beyond test scores alone, emphasizing reasoning abilities, analytical problem-solving, and personalized teacher interventions.

Preliminary Pilot Results Point to Significant Engagement Gains

The national rollout builds on preliminary classroom pilots conducted by AIRS across partner institutions. A pilot at The Indian Public School (TIPS) in Dehradun involving Grade 8 students demonstrated a 21-percentage-point increase in average test scores (rising from 49% to 70%), with 94% of participating students reporting higher confidence in the subject and 88% rating the AI-assisted lesson more engaging than traditional classes. Similarly, long-term feedback from NH Goel World School in Raipur highlighted marked improvements in research skills, problem-solving, and presentation confidence alongside higher teacher adoption of AI tools.

AIRS Research plans to compile data from all 100 participating schools into a comprehensive national report, which will be formally released at an education summit in New Delhi in January 2027. The findings will provide teachers, school leaders, and policymakers with an independent, India-specific evidence base on where AI adds measurable value in K–12 education.
